Blog ping is a new ping service that allows us to send pings to major directories like Technorati, Webblogs, Newsgator, etc whenever you update your blog. It includes up to 26 directories and you just enter the site name, URL, select the directories want to send, and press the 'Send Pings!' that’s all!
The advantage of such services is that, it has the ability to cover a multitude of search engines at once and knowing that some of these directories, in turn, contain many others.[Source]
