Mozilla Firefox Web Accelerator-Fasterfox.

Fasterfox is a web accelerator for Mozilla Firefox, which is an extension that tweaks network connection and caches web pages in order to increase page loading speed.

Fasterfox allows you to tweak many network and rendering settings such as simultaneous connections, pipelining, cache, DNS cache, and initial paint delay in custom mode.
How it work?

Fasterfox has the ability to prefetch all links on a page in the background so that when a link is clicked, only a fraction of the time to load the page will be used, since the page has already been prfecthed (downloaded).

Fasterfox checks the robots.txt file on the root folder of servers to see whether or not it should prefetch the page. But this is a major problem for many webmasters who are low on bandwidth. Since Fasterfox constantly requests new files, it can cause many servers to overload much faster than if a person viewing the same content without Fasterfox.

This new feature (checks for robots.txt file) allows webmasters to add the text- User-agent: Fasterfox and Disallow: /- to their robots.txt file to prevent Fasterfox from pre-fetching links. Webmasters can modify the text so that Fasterfox will only be prevented from pre-fetching on specified directories.

However I found 5 - 30 percent improvement in speed.

The new version is suitable for firefox 1.5 – 2.0 all.
