Lotus Symphony - Free Office from IBM




IBM has released a free office suite - Lotus Symphony - a free software tools for creating and sharing documents, spreadsheets and presentations. IBM Lotus Symphony is available for both Windows and Linux platforms. Support for Apple Macintosh planned for the future.

Lotus Symphony is based on the Open Document Format (ODF) standard which helps provide interoperability and flexibility. You can import, edit and save a variety of file formats including Microsoft Office files. You can even export your documents to PDF.

There are three main applications in Lotus Symphony - Lotus Symphony Documents, Spreadsheets and Presentations. All these applications are for creating, editing, and sharing word processing documents, spreadsheets, and presentations. It designed to handle the majority of tasks that end users perform, and supports the ODF giving organizations the ability to access, use, and maintain their documents over the long term without concern about end of life uncertainties or ongoing software licensing and royalty fees.
